The compass and the shutter

The camera screen stays dark. Is it broken?

That's on purpose: the view opens up as you turn toward the day's direction (shown at the top, e.g. "336°–348° N") and the shutter unlocks once you're facing it. Turn slowly, holding the phone upright as if taking a photo.

The direction seems wrong or jumps around.

The compass is disturbed by metal and magnets — cars, steel desks, magnetic cases and chargers. Step away from them, and if iOS asks, move your iPhone in a figure-eight to recalibrate. Make sure Location is allowed for Full Circle (Settings → Full Circle → Location → While Using the App); iOS needs it for a true-north heading.

Can I take a selfie?

Yes — flip to the front camera. The day's direction is where the photo faces, so with the front camera you stand with your back to it.

Days, streaks and ✦

How do I earn a ✦?

Take the day's photo somewhere you haven't taken one yet this month — at least 200 m from any earlier photo. The first photo of each month always earns one. Without location access, photos don't earn ✦ (and nothing is taken away).

I missed a day. Can I make it up?

Yes, during the same month: tap the missed wedge on the compass, or the ✦ counter, and spend one ✦ to take that day's photo now. It also mends your streak. Once a month has ended it stays as it was.

Can I replace a photo I already took?

For this month's photos, yes — open the photo and choose Reshoot, for one ✦. The original isn't deleted; it's kept inside the app.

When does a month close?

When every day has a photo — or at the end of the month, whatever you've got. A finished month can be opened again from the year view, and you can "Step inside" to see its photos around you.

Your photos

Where are my photos stored?

Inside the app, on your iPhone — not in the Photos app, and not on our servers. They're included in your iPhone's iCloud or computer backup if backups are on.

How do I get a photo out of the app?

Open the photo and tap Share. You can save the card to Photos or send it anywhere, and choose whether it shows the direction, date and city.

If I delete the app, what happens?

Your photos and progress are deleted with it. Save any photos you want to keep first. Restoring your iPhone from a backup made before deleting brings them back.

Reminders

I'm not getting the daily reminder.

Check Settings → Notifications → Full Circle. Reminders stop for the day once you've taken that day's photo.
